Parking bans in place as cleaning crews out in force

Snow clean-up is in full swing across Kelowna

People are being asked to not park on the street to help plow crews do their job, specifically in the snow route areas where parking bans are still in place.

“We are seeing roads that our operators can’t service because they can’t get a truck between vehicles parked in the street,” Roadways Operations Manager Andrew Schwerdtfeger said in a media release. “Moving your car off the street means better and faster snow clearing service for everyone. It’s crucial in snow route areas but it’s important on any street.”

Those snow routes include Academy Way, Black Mountain, Clifton, Magic Estates, Wilden, Dilworth Mountain, Kirschner Mountain, Mckinley Beach, and areas in the South Mission.

Anyone who doesn’t move their car in a snow route area will be ticketed until the parking ban is lifted.

Currently, Kelowna has 20 vehicles on the streets clearing and sanding snow with a focus on Priority One roads like Gordon Drive and Rutland Road, and Priority Two roads that include collector roads with steep hills, sharp curves, school zones, emergency vehicle stations and transit routes.

Over 1,200 metric tonnes of sand have been delivered and will go towards road safety work.

Roadway crews have cleared over 33,000 kms of road this past week.

A map of priority snow routes can be found online.
