Sarah goes on a nostalgia trip at this hidden gem
One of the most recognizable artists of all time has some of his works showcased in a small Kelowna gallery.
Sarah Nick from 104.7 The Lizard took a trip into the Delta Hotel to check out the Art Lovers Gallery, which showcases the works of children’s author, Dr. Seuss.
“We are the only authorized gallery in western Canada to represent and sell the art of Dr. Seuss,” Sales Rep Michaela Redekop told Sarah. “Each artist tells their story through their creation, and Dr. Seuss was the most iconic storyteller of our time.”
Adorning the walls are many brightly coloured pieces, all displaying the fantastical and absurdist worlds the famed artist created.
The artist died in 1991 but his legacy lives on through the certified reproductions.
Among the works featured, the early piece titled “Yawning Cat”, is one of gallery owner DJ Block’s favourites.
“It’s a pre-concept drawing,” Block explained. “It has his production notes on it because he was very particular from start to finish on making sure the artwork was exactly the way he envisioned.”
The art displayed is ‘investment quality’, which Block explained as something that will continue to appreciate as you appreciate it.
Dr. Seuss isn’t the only artist that graces the walls of her gallery; Block prides herself on being able to showcase some amazing local art as well.
“When we first opened, I found that the Seuss was a little bit more of a universal draw, but we still try to make space in the gallery,” she explained. “We say we’re small but fierce so that we can promote local artists.”
