Not a usual morning shift as restaurant employee reports fire

Early morning fire at Cactus Club

A quick response by the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) Wednesday morning helped suppress a fire that threatened a popular restaurant.

The department received a call just before 7 a.m. from an employee at Cactus Club Café reporting smoke inside the building.

Officers found smoke coming from the soffit area on the rear side of the building.

A fire was found inside the exterior wall of the mechanical room in the back of the building.

The fire was exposed and extinguished.

Fire damage was caused to the mechanical room and outside wall with no extension of the fire into the restaurant area itself.

KFD said the fire is most likely electrical in nature and will be investigated.

It was not immediately clear how the fire had impacted the restaurant's operations.
