New e-bikes spin into Kelowna

Cyclists can rent bikes to get around the city.

  • Same rules and regulations as e-scooters
  • Partnership with Spin
  • 100 bikes will be introduced in the first month

A new e-bike sharing program has arrived in Kelowna allowing cyclists to enjoy riding bikes without needing to own one.

The city introduced an electric bikeshare program in partnership with Ford-owned Spin earlier this week, with bikes arriving all over Kelowna.

“This new e-bike sharing program will allow riders of all abilities access to one of the city's favourite methods of transportation, cycling,” Matt Worona, New Mobility Specialist with the city said.

“Spin will be a great partner to work with as we introduce new, environmentally friendly ways of getting around Kelowna.”

The bikes have a 160 km of range, wireless charging for smartphones, and a dual kickstand to keep sidewalks clear. The company focuses on investing in climate-friendly methods of transportation.

Existing restrictions and requirements currently in place for e-scooters will be in effect as much as possible for shared e-bikes, including a free helmet distribution program and low-income access plans.

Spin will initially launch with a limited number of bikes and will rise to 100 over the first month.
