Nearly all Kelowna city staff are fully vaccinated

Employees who aren’t vaccinated now on unpaid leave

Any Kelowna city staff not fully vaccinated as of Dec. 14 have been placed on unpaid leave.

In a media release, the city did not say exactly how many employees are not double jabbed, however, 98 per cent of workers are.

“Our staff serve the public proudly. Throughout the pandemic they have shown great strength, adaptation and innovation as they continue to provide the public with full access to municipal services,” City Manager Doug Gilchrist said.

“While we don’t want to see staff leave us, we remain confident that vaccination, along with our many other pandemic safety measures, help ensure our staff are safe at work and residents can confidently receive the services they need.”

Corporate & Protective Services Director Stu Leatherdale said his department continues to work with those who are not vaccinated or did not confirm their status.

“Should they receive full vaccination within the next three months, they will be allowed to return to work,” he said in the release.
