Ever wanted to wield an authentic lightsaber?
May the Fourth be with you!
On this notable day, Star Wars fans around the world celebrate the beloved media franchise that was created by George Lucas.
And one local fan has taken his passion for the intergalactic adventures to a whole new level with his home-made lightsabers.
Trevor Brown, of West Coast Saber Installations, fabricates the electronic circuitry, lighting, and sound controls to come up with an authentic looking weapon that any storm trooper … or fellow office worker …would run from.
He told Big Ginger from 103.1 Beach Radio's about how he and his daughter got into building lightsabers back in 2015.
It all started when Brown's own lightsaber broke, and he decided to use his electronics repair knowledge from high school to fix it.
“It was an easy fix. I had posted it up online on Facebook, and I didn't know there's this little niche community of builders and, next thing I know, I had somebody offer to buy it off me,” he said.
“I was like, ‘oh, okay, well, that's great.’ So, I bought my next saber, and I hadn’t even installed it yet, and I had posted that up and I had already had somebody offering to buy it off me before I even started.”
He offers a variety of custom-built lightsabers, with prices starting at $150 and increasing depending on the complexity of the design and features. Brown's story is a testament to the power of community and the passion that drives Star Wars fans to create and celebrate the iconic franchise.
