Meet Shanda Hill, record-setting ultra athlete

41 days of ultra endurance swimming, cycling and running

Fancy 41 days in Italy?

Sounds fun...until you find out the trip around La Garda, involves having to swim over a hundred kilometres, then cycle the equivalent of crossing Canada, and then running further than the distance from Kelowna to Swift Current, SK.

But for Vernon ultra athlete Shanda Hill this is what she does.

She recently became the first woman ever to complete this ultimate test of physical and mental resolve. It was the latest in her remarkable tally of IUTA iron-distance triathlons—135 in just 11 events.

"I'm going to do this until I stop loving it," she told Brian and Rebecca from 107.5 Beach Radio's morning show after her return home. "The second I stop loving it I'm going to know what it's like to have money in my bank."

Hill crossed the finish line at the Triple Deca Continuous Triathlon Oct.12, having started her extraordinary quest on Sept. 1.

She swam the 114km at La Garda in 96 hours, followed by 18 days on her bike, and then the 1,266 km run. She was the fifth athlete overall to complete the event last month.

Her sponsors include Hot Bread Shoppe, Iron Heart Gym, Rancho Vignola and Monashee Outdoors.
