Meet Kelowna’s newest millionaire

Trip, retail therapy ahead for lottery winner

Sherrill Atchison needed a friend to confirm that she had just won $1 million.

“I grabbed my friend and told her to come with me to verify the ticket and I remember saying, ‘I think my eyeballs are upside down,’” she recalled in a media release from B.C. Lottery Commission.

Kelowna’s newest millionaire said her friend thought she was joking until she started bouncing up and down.

Atchison plans to use her winnings to take a trip to Mexico, which will be her first-time leaving Canada. Some retail therapy is also in store, she said.

“This win will make life a little more comfortable and I can now go shopping and buy whatever I need,” she said.

Atchison purchased her ticket for the Sept. 22, 2021, draw from Capri Centre Mall and was at the mall when she self-checked her ticket at the Independent Grocer. She won on Guaranteed $1-million Lotto 6/49 draw.
