Non-profit partners with locals to distribute food in Okanagan
Food-It-Forward Okanagan is a non-profit organization run by volunteers that focuses on rescuing food and redistributing it within the community.
The group partners with local businesses, farms, and bakeries and distributes the consumable food waste through pick-up spots located in different areas in the Okanagan.
In an interview with Big Ginger from 103.1 Beach Radio, the CEO of Food-It-Forward, Carrie Lynn, shared that the organization's efforts extend beyond feeding those in need.
Some community members have offered their properties for storage, where Food-It-Forward stores not only food but also items such as containers, rubber gloves, cleaning supplies, and pizza boxes. This access to storage has proven to be beneficial for the organization's operations.
Lynn emphasized that Food-It-Forward not only relies on donations but also needs assistance in preparing pre-cooked meals. The organization welcomes any help from volunteers who are interested in supporting its mission.
For those interested in learning more about the organization and how to get involved as a volunteer, Food-It-Forward Okanagan's Facebook page provides detailed information on exact drops and volunteering opportunities.
