Lighting up the water

Kelowna company enhancing safety on the water

A local company is pushing innovation to ensure people using its high-tech products can be seen after the sun goes down.

MSLR Electric is the first company in the world to patent marine safety LED lights for its E-Foil boards. The red and green lights run along the port and starboard sides, as well as the stern of the board, to give a bright visual at night.

CEO Carey Missler told Kelowna10 his company is constantly striving to be cutting edge, and that includes making sure riders are safe.

“Having the lights on the E-Foil pretty much needs to be the standard. Boats have lights on them and it’s for a reason, so other boats can see you and there are no collisions,” he said. “If there’s anything we can do to prevent even one person from getting hurt, that’s our goal.”

He said they have incorporated the technology into their manufacturing process and have patented the marine lighting in several countries.

Missler said the demand for E-Foils locally has been high.

“We all grew up on water, we grew up wake surfing, swimming, wake boarding, all that kind of stuff,” he said. “The evolution really turned into foiling behind boats on regular foil surfboards, now the technology is here for E-Foils. The demand for it has been amazing.”

To date, MSLR Electric has sold over a million dollars worth of product.

Missler said they are working with Transport Canada to help create a safety plan for E-Foil boards.
