Life in Full Bloom: getting ready for big art festival

Flowers blooming for one of the largest art events in BC

In the George Elliot High School, several people are preparing décor for one of the most highly anticipated art festivals in the province.

Everyone is working meticulously, creating large flower pieces that will line the area for the annual Lake Country ArtWalk.

Helping assist is Sharon McCoubrey, the Chairperson for the ArtWalk’s planning committee.

“This will be our 29th annual ArtWalk; 24th as a community event,” McCoubrey told Kelowna10. “It has meant a great deal for not just the community of Lake Country, but the Valley and beyond in that, it provides a very rich cultural event.”

She is overjoyed to be able to have the event back in full force after such a long hiatus due to Covid-19, even designing this year’s theme to brighten up people’s lives after the past two years.

“This year our theme is called Life in Full Bloom,” she explained. “So, we’re kind of looking at harmony and nature, gardening, flowers, blooms, it seems like a really positive and uplifting concept.”

The event will be host to thousands of pieces of art, with over 200 Okanagan artists coming to attend.

“We’re very excited to welcome the artists back and welcome the public to come back,” McCoubrey said. “We welcome everyone to come, and we’re sure you will find some exciting and enjoyable things at ArtWalk.”

The event takes place September 10th and 11th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at George Elliot Secondary, as well as H.S. Grenda Middle School, admission is $2.
