It's time to Rock the Lake

Things are starting to look at lot like a live concert venue

It’s the final countdown to the long-awaited and much-anticipated Rock the Lake music festival presented by 103.1 Beach Radio and 104.7 The Lizard.

Three days of rockin’ get underway today at 4:30 p.m. when The Spoons hit the stage. Nazareth will bring the house and the curtain down Sunday night. In between, there are another dozen big names on stage including Friday night headliners Flock of Seagulls.

On Thursday afternoon, crews in the Prospera Place parking lot were setting up the stage and rigging lights and speakers. Others were setting up the VIP area while vendors were getting their wares in order ahead of the arrival of thousands of fans over the weekend.

“I think everyone is so excited,” George Favel from GSL Group told Kelowna10, noting the obvious anticipation after the 2020 and 2021 editions of the event were shelved because of the pandemic.

“We’ve had people coming to these shows year after year who can’t wait, and we have people who are coming for the very first time and are so excited. This is stuff we took for granted over the years,” Favel said.

The gates open to patrons at 3:30 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and Favel said his biggest tip is to arrive early and carpool if you can, given the shortage of parking around downtown.

“There’s going to be a bit of a line-up to get in, but that tends to move quickly. Come out early and have fun.”

The arena itself is open for the event as well.

“People do have access to our building, they’re able to go in, order food, cool off, the washrooms are open too.”

Ultimately Favel said everyone involved in the process is super excited to be at the stage where they’re so close to welcoming everyone back.

“We have so much pride putting on this show. We love Kelowna, the bands love Kelowna; we’re so excited to welcome people who live here and tourists as well. There’s a lot of pride in putting on a show of this caliber and quality.”
