Data shows we’re itching to get into the snow
Kelowna is the most snowsports obsessed city in Canada, according to data collated from Google searches.
Job search company Snow Season Central analysed more than 6,000 ski-related terms over the last 12 months and found Kelowna was way ahead of the pack when it came to people going online to search all things snowsports.
Over half a million such searches were done per capita (based on 100,000 people), which is a whopping 683% higher than the national average.
On a per capita basis, Burnaby came in second, followed by Vancouver in third and Coquitlam in fourth.
The study also looked at the popularity of different snowsports by assessing the percentage of searches related to either skiing or snowboarding.
The analysis found that at a national level, 68% of the search interest was for snowboarding, compared to only 32% for skiing.
The Kelowna specific breakdown found a 64/36 per cent in favour of snowboarding.
