Here's where Kelowna ranked on a list of livable cities

The results might surprise you

Did someone say controversy?

The Globe & Mail recently published a complete list of Canada's most livable cities. The paper collected data on about 439 cities across the country, spanning a variety of categories including economy, housing, health care, education and climate.

Topping the list was Victoria, B.C., followed closely by North Vancouver, Winnipeg, Regina, and Burlington, Ont.

But what about Kelowna?

It ranked 84th! (Vernon was 75, and Penticton, 28)

The list was graded on things like livability, economy, safety, and housing.

It said because the cost of housing has become as common as discussing the weather, other factors have become overlooked when looking to relocate.

"Even if you could afford to live there, would you want to?” the Globe asked.

"The primary purpose of our rankings is to help Canadians identify communities where they can flourish based on their own circumstances."

The list is quite extensive, and rankings change drastically when measuring cities based on criteria such as the best place for raising kids, midlife transitions, retirement, newcomers, or entrepreneurs. (Kelowna ranks in the Top 20 for retirement).

Ara, from 103.1 Beach Radio, had a message for the folks at the publication to get Kelowna ranked higher.
