Kelowna Fringe Preview: Sweeping Meditations

Interactive comedy show looks to find the magic through household chore.

The Kelowna International Fringe Festival is back, and Kelowna10 is swinging by local rehearsals to give you a glimpse of what to expect and decide what you might want to see.

Sweeping Meditations

A solo performance by Erin Scott, Sweeping Meditations is an interactive comedy performance that looks to find the magic in mundane activities like sweeping while uncovering personal truths and the power in meditative action.

What is the inspiration behind the performance?

“I am a mother of four, and I spend an absurd amount of time sweeping, and I just felt that sweeping had this meditative nature to it that when I was sweeping, I wasn’t always thinking about a lot of things and that maybe there was something I could share with other people who found themselves similarly caretaking in all these types of areas,” Scott said.

Why should people see it?

“Sweeping Meditations is an interactive show. Audiences get the opportunity to play along. We’ll do guided meditations, and share our own stories of whether we love or hate sweeping and what that might look like. This show is comedy based there’s a lot of laughter, humour, and fun,” she said. “It’s a bit of both worlds of gentle and restful and participation based but it’s meant to cause laughter and humour and lighten some of the hard things we carry everyday in our lives.”
