Kelowna Fringe Preview: Re: Collection

Show examines the handling of one’s mental health through theatre and dance.

The Kelowna International Fringe Festival is back, and Kelowna10 is swinging by local rehearsals to give you a glimpse of what to expect and decide what you might want to see.

Re: Collection

A mix of theatre and dance, the show explores the representation of what’s going on in different mental health issues including suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and depression. The show is written by DeAnna MacArthur and choreographed by Kurt Werner.

What is the inspiration behind the performance?

“The inspiration for the show came from a collection of my friends’ personal writings when she was growing up. This is a little bit of a biographical tale, but we rejigged it in a different order to show the parallels between different points in life versus seeing it in a chronological order,” Werner said.

Why should people see it?

“What’s really great about this show is even though it does have a little darker or sad tone to it, it speaks to different issues that are prevalent for all of us and to help be a conversation starter if we’re not quite in that place,” Werner said. “If we see that on display it can help slowly open it up to have those conversations we need to lead happier lives.”
