Kelowna and this B.C. town are among the world’s 'most-loved' travel spots

Index uses AI to determine popularity

What does Kelowna have in common with the Maldives, the Bahamas, or Venice?

They all share a place in the list of 'most-loved' travel destinations around the world.

Created by the Tourism Sentiment Index (TSI), the list highlights 100 places worldwide, and is calculated by real conversations and content generated online.

“Through natural language processing, we filter to those that are driven by a destination’s tourism experiences or products,” the website states.

This isn’t the first time Kelowna has made this list, having jumped 12 spots this year, moving from #96 last year to #84 this year with a tourism sentiment score of 24.43.

The index determines the greatest things each location has to offer, with Kelowna’s wine culture listed as “the city’s greatest asset,” praising its wineries and vineyards.

Along with Kelowna, three other Canadian locations made the list, along with Canmore, AB at #95, Niagara Falls, ON at #81, and Fernie, BC at #73.

According to the most recent numbers, Fernie has a population below 6,000, which might be one of the reasons why it placed ahead of Kelowna as one of the world’s most-loved towns.

The top destinations overall included the Maldives at #1, while the Whitsunday Islands and Sunshine Coast in Australia placed #2 and #3, respectively.
