Kelowna among top cities to survive zombie apocalypse

Just in case it does happen, it might be good to know

We’ve all been there, sitting around with friends and the topic comes up: how long do you think we’d survive in a zombie apocalypse?

According to a recent hypothetically report, Kelowna is among one of the top places in Canada to survive hordes of the undead.

Rentola, a rental search engine, weighed five categories to figure out where the best place might be to hunker down and outlast the undead in Canada.

The ranking considered vulnerability, supplies, hideouts, safety, and mobility.

Kelowna landed seventh on the list, with a score of 6.13 out of 10. It ranked high on mobility and vulnerability, with moderate ratings in the other three categories.

“This is a fictitious crisis that we examined in depth to determine which city in Canada is the safest in the event of a zombie apocalypse,” the report read.

Vulnerability considered population density, perceived physical & mental health, and number of visits to the area. Hideouts weighed average household size, proximity to parks or green space, and the housing vacancy rate.

Supplies considered space for a garden or areas with trees, shrubs, flowers, or vegetables. Safety took into account the crime rate, total firearms, and weapons violations of a city, while mobility considered access to travel.

Edmonton topped the list, garnering a perfect 10 in the hideout and mobility categories. Saskatoon, Guelph, Calgary, Regina, and Winnipeg rounded out the Top 6.

Kelowna was the highest ranked city in British Columbia, with only Abbotsford making the Top 10. Vancouver placed 22nd, while Victoria ranked 26th out of the 35 major centres analyzed across the country.

The worst city to survive a hypothetical zombie apocalypse, according to the report, is St. John, New Brunswick.
