From the market stall to dedicated cafe
Over the last four years, the only place to get Anarchy Coffee Roasters was at the Kelowna Farmers and Crafters Market. Today, the dream for owners Bailey Mitchell and Jesse Nelson has come to a reality, a dedicated café to welcome customers to purchase not only their unique beans, but also giving customers the convenience to take their brews to go.
Mitchell told Kelowna10 they’ve been in their new space for a year and half which has acted as their production space but knew there was a hope to put a hospitality side eventually. Along with their own brews, they feature some sandwich options and locally sourced baking items.
“It’s been cool welcoming people to come into our space here and see what we got going on,” he said. “The coffee side of things we’ve had down for a while with that at the farmer's market. The only thing that kind of threw us through a loop that we had to really learn more about was the food side of things.”
He noted their coffee assortments span from light roasts that captivate coffee enthusiasts to dark roasts tailored for those with more traditional preferences. Their roasting process is designed to extract the best flavors from the beans for an optimal taste across their different roasts.
“The coffee industry is moving that way. Some people are kind of going more specialty specific roasts like that catered towards lighter roast that have those bright fruity flavors,” Mitchell said. “But we want to have a broad range that caters to everyone. Any sort of coffee drinker can come in here and one, feel welcome, and then find a coffee that that they're going to enjoy.”
According to Mitchell, the name "Anarchy Roasters" stems from him and Nelson’s passions for music and coffee.
“Looking at the coffee industry as a whole, we found that something like this just intentionally a little bit rough around the edges of something that we would, you know, leverage on,” he said. “[We wanted] to do something that we're super into not only just with the coffee, but also the music, and just putting all our passions in one place.”
The shop has received a positive blend of customers from their loyal followers and social media, but also new ones discovering their location and seeing what they’re all about.
