Is this the most expensive guitar for sale in Kelowna?

Capturing the essence of iconic rocker Eddie Van Halen

Things were running a little bit hot at Wentworth Music, as they showed off one of their most expensive guitars, the EVH ‘Frankenstein’ Stratocaster.

Nori Wentworth employed the musical abilities of his colleague Mike Tharin to fully display the guitar’s power.

Tharin grabbed ahold of the axe and burst into an eruption of iconic riffs.

“Iconically, Edward Van Halen (EVH) is probably the most well-known guitar player in the universe of all time,” Wentworth told Kelowna10. “This is one of his signature models. The ‘Frankenstein’ Strat.”

It’s certainly a curious name for a guitar if you aren’t aware of its origins.

Created in 1975 by Eddie Van Halen himself, it was formed from a multitude of parts he had found or stripped off other guitars. It only cost a couple hundred bucks at the time.

And thus, from its many parent guitars, the Frankenstrat was born.

“This is basically Eddie Van Halen’s guitar brand which started up probably about 10 or 15 years ago and they came out with this replica of his Frankenstrat,” he explained. “So, although it isn’t the original guitar, which is probably worth millions of dollars, this is still one of the more expensive guitars that we have here at Wentworth Music.”

The guitar's price tag isn’t due to namesake alone.

The instrument features one humbucker pickup on the bridge, providing the player with a rich thick tone without the associated noise one would typically get from a single coil pickup.

Emblazoned on the body of the guitar is the signature paintjob of intersecting stripes, which Eddie had originally created by utilizing gaffer tape, and applying multiple different paints to the taped guitar body.

To truly pay homage to the rocker’s signature guitar, the painted finish was meticulously worn to make it look like it’s been through tour after tour on the road, even going as far as to make the wooden neck look discoloured from sweat and use.

“The price is definitely more the components that are used in it, the paint job, then the wearing it down,” Wentworth explained. “A lot of man hours have gone into making it sound and play as good as possible.”

The price of the EVH ‘Frankenstein’ Stratocaster is $2,550.00
