Is this Kelowna’s biggest pumpkin?

You'll never guess how much this thing weighs!

If The Great Pumpkin is real, it’s living outside Don-O-Ray Farms.

The farmer’s marketplace is proudly displaying the largest pumpkin its ever had.

Co-owner Jas Sanghera told Kelowna10 a regular customer brought the enormous gourd over a week ago and has been the talk of the store since.

“A common question we’re being asked is how much does it weigh? And when we tell them it’s 1,100 pounds, they get surprised, it just shocks them,” he said. “It’s been a great part of Don-O-Ray this year to have this big guy here and people been loving it.”

The voluptuous fruit measures about four feet by four feet.

Growing a pumpkin of that magnitude is not easy, Sanghera said.

“Lots of manure goes into these Giant Pumpkins. Keep the weeds away. Feed it lots of compost. Monitor and give it attention and love. That’s the key to growing big pumpkins. Love,” he explained.

While folks from all around the Okanagan will enjoy the attraction for the next few weeks, Sanghera said when the time comes, they’ll shred it up and mix it into their compost which will be used for their spring harvest.

And if you are still looking for your perfect fall pumpkin, Don-O-Ray Farms has plenty of gourds looking for homes, including the 1,100-pound beast. Sanghera promises he’ll strike you a good deal.
