Introducing teen Kelowna rockers Freeze the Fall

Big things ahead for these up and comers

As young rockers 'Freeze the Fall' continue to play at venues around Kelowna, Ara from 103.1 Beach Radio headed down to Revelry Food+Music Hub to catch them before their latest gig.

Hopping up onto the stage, he chatted with the band's vocalist Quinn, just before they did their sound check.

The following interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Ara: Right off the bat, how old are you guys?

Quinn: So, I’m 16, and then Aria and Jonah, the other two members, are 15.

A: How did everybody meet?

Q: Aria and I went to the same middle school, and then we met Jonah through a friend of a friend type of thing.

A:Freeze the Fall’, what does it mean? How did you come up with the name?

Q: There isn't really a cool story to it. We just were like, putting random words together and we're like, ‘that sounds cool’ and it stuck. People like the name.

A: What kind of music is it?

Q: It's kind of hard rock, you know? We’ve got the angsty guitars and stuff, but melodic vocals over top.

A: Who would you say is your number one musical influence?

There's a band called ‘The Warning’, they got me into music so they're kind of the go to.

A: Ok, are we talking covers, originals, a mix?

Q: We started out with some covers, and we still have kept two or three of them, but we’re mostly originals.

A: How's the reception been so far?

Q: Really good. We've been met with a lot more support than I think we even intended. It's crazy. Everyone's on board, it's awesome.

A: What's the word with the Kickstarter?

Q: Yeah, so we set out for $5,000, that was our initial goal on Kickstarter and that goal was met in less than three days, which is crazy. So, we're moving on to stretch goals.

A: And what would you like to do with the money? Are we talking albums, videos?

Q: We're in the process of recording our debut EP. It's five songs, so the money will go towards that and everything that encompasses. So that's promotion, that's album art, that's just everything to get the music good and out there, right?

A: And you can't really do this without the support of everybody helping you out. Give some shout outs to those that helped you.

Q: Oh man, well first of all, all of our parents and then also our producer, Jordan and his partner in crime, Doug, and just all the fans. And our music teachers too.

A: So, what do you hope the audience takes away from a show once they're heading home from watching you guys do your thing?

Q: I hope they just feel maybe inspired. It sounds cheesy, but I hope they feel inspired. Like, 'oh look, there's some young local kids who are just kind of making music right now.'
