How this local man turned $5 into a million

Kelowna resident wins jackpot at Playtime Casino

The odds were in the favour of Kelowna resident Joshua Alexander during a night at Playtime Casino recently.

After 20 minutes of playing on a slot machine, he would make the wager of just $5.25 and end up winning the jackpot of $1,032,361.83.

Beside him that night were his cousin and girlfriend who were looking on as the win happened.

“She started freaking out, and I thought it was a prank or something,” he recounted at a special media event at the casino Thursday. “My cousin thought I broke the machine.”

Alexander did not offer the media an interview.

According to Playtime Casino, the odds of winning the jackpot on a $3 wager are approximately 1 in 25 million.

He says the decision to go out that night, was his father’s.

“He wanted to go, so I was like sure, and my girlfriend and cousin came with us,” Alexander explained. “It was a restless night for us when we came home, our minds were blown.”

He plans on giving some of the money to his father and looks forward to crossing off some vacation destinations from his bucket list such as Mexico, Australia, and California.
