Offering taste and tradition
Get ready to embark on a flavor-packed adventure as Bubble Waffle Café brings the vibrant essence of Hong Kong's comfort foods to Kelowna.
This charming eatery is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary experience that has locals and visitors alike savoring the tastes of Asia.
Among the stars of the show are the legendary bubble waffles, a beloved Hong Kong classic that's both crispy and tender, acting as a canvas for a myriad of toppings that awaken the senses. The enchantment doesn't stop there – Hainanese Chicken, boasting its aromatic flavors and perfectly paired rice, dances on your palate, while the soul-soothing laksa noodle soup offers a journey through a delightful spectrum of spiciness and taste.
“When we were living in Richmond and we came here, we're like, what can we eat late at night? There wasn't too many options,” owner Daniel Chu told Sarah Nick from 104.7 The LIZARD. “We love that Asian home feeling. So that's something we're looking forward to.”
Moving to Kelowna a year and a half ago, Chu and his other partner in the business felt the choice of diverse foods was lacking in Kelowna and wanted to bring something unique to the food scene.
“Both Adrian and I love food it's a big part of our lives. When we were living in Richmond, we'd go to Bubble Waffle Café and so, oh, why not just bring it here?,” he explained. “The students [at UBCO] love it. And we really wanted to bring that culture and as Kelowna is growing, we really wanted to be part of that.”
As twilight descends, the doors of Bubble Waffle Café fling open, inviting patrons to feast their senses from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. The strategic location, nestled near the university and airport, is a testament to the duo's dedication to serving hungry scholars and jet-setters alike.
“My partner and I have ties to UBC, so we want to be here to support the students, and students get hungry at nighttime. So we want to give them some options,” Chu said. “And then obviously near the airport, we have the traffic coming in and anyone who maybe has a layover…they can come in and pop in and grab a quick bite to eat.”
