Kelowna RCMP said a call for a home invasion sparked a massive police response just before dawn Tuesday.

Just after 5 a.m., officers responded to the call at a home along Harvey Ave., between Richter and Ethel St.

Frontline officers, as well as members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) surrounded the home.

As daylight arrived, a Kelowna10 reporter witnessed police close in on the property using an armoured vehicle. Snipers were positioned around the home and at least two police dogs were on scene.

After several calls for anyone inside the home to come out, one man in a reflective vest walked down the driveway and was placed in a police vehicle. A short time later, officers entered the home and removed another person.

Police said there is no threat to the public at this time.

Highway 97 was closed for several hours, snarling rush hour traffic. It reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
