Know your layers
Yes, it’s pretty darn cold but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in the big outdoors.
Toby from 103.1 Beach Radio spoke to the folks at Altitude store at Big White.
Here’s what you need to know when it comes to making sure you have the right gear.
Base layer
This is what’s directly on your skin and it moves perspiration away from your skin. Thus underwear-style clothing is essential because it helps keep you from becoming chilled or worse – hypothermic.
Middle layer
This retains the heat radiated from your body. Clothing examples include fleece or down jackets and synthetic insulated wear.
Outer layer
This shell protects you from the wind, rain and snow. Most allow for at least some perspiration to escape and virtually all have a water repellent finish.
Even if you don’t wear all three layers at the outset it’s good to take all with you on an outing. You can always peel off layers if things heat off but you can’t put on layers if you don’t bring them along.
