Here’s a peek at the big YLW expansion

$108 million first phase underway

Works crews at Kelowna International Airport are well underway with the first phase of a multi-year process that will dramatically change the facility's layout in the coming decade.

The terminal building on the south end of the airport is being doubled in size with an additional 5,590 square metres of new space and 1,200 sq metres of renovations.

The $108 million expansion will also see improved food and beverage options, expanded security screening, and new direct access to and from aircraft on several gates.

This, along with a new hotel and 1,000 vehicle parkade should be completed by 2026/2027.

The taxiway is also being rehabilitated to allow for less gridlock once planes arrive, meaning fewer frustrating waits for passengers in peak periods.

Longer term, as part of $422 million in upgrades over the next ten years, the airport will see a new arrivals hall and large customs facility built. These will also go on the south end of the property, which is on the land currently occupied by the long term parking lot and Shadow Ridge Golf course.
