These gingerbread houses are helping real Okanagan families

It’s the most affordable home in Kelowna at just $25.

And while it might be made of gingerbread, it can help provide real, affordable housing for families in need across the Okanagan.

Habitat for Humanity Okanagan’s Jingle Bell Build is back, giving people the opportunity to make the age-old tradition of building and decorating a gingerbread house that much merrier this holiday season.

For just $25 for individuals and families, gingerbread house kits can be purchased online and picked up at any of the four ReStore locations in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton, after Nov. 10.

Once assembled, a photo of the gingerbread house can be submitted to gingerbread@hfhokanagan.ca with the subject line, 'Jingle Bell Build Photo Contest Entry', no later than Dec. 3, 2023.

Online voting will run from Tues., Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 17.

A winner will be announced on or around Dec. 18. The winner will receive a fantastic prize, courtesy of the many sponsors!

All the money raised will help support a project underdevelopment in Lake Country, which will help families realize their dream of affordable home ownership.

Back this year is the corporate build night on Nov. 22 at the Laurel Packaging House.

There, business will be able to pit their skills against each other in a night of friendly competition. The deadline for teams to enter is Nov. 15.

Ara and Toby, from 103.1 Beach Radio, are taking part in the contest, and assembled their home at the station.
