Make-over for Gordon Drive

  • Job has caused traffic congestion and delays between city to Lower Mission

Delays and heavy congestion along Gordon Drive, should be in the rear-view mirror by the end of day.

City crews have spent the last two days resurfacing the southbound section between Ladner and Cook roads.

It has caused traffic snarls ups into Lower Mission, something that’s not lost on the city.

“It’s going pretty well,” design technician Kristel Dodaro told Kelowna10. “We need to work quickly and efficiently. There are a lot of people who need to use the road to get to work and commute around the city. Gordon Drive is a pretty busy road.”

She said the job is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the day.

“Paint markings will be done next week and [then] the road will be fully functional,” she said.

The project includes a new surface as well as the repair of many potholes along the route and improvements and widening of bike lanes.

Two-way traffic is being maintained on Gordon Drive using the northbound lanes but it has been very slow at times.

In a media release the City of Kelowna said they and workers on site appreciate the patience of residents, businesses and motorists while road work is underway.

It’s part of a $4.5 million pavement management program which includes resurfacing of 16 sections of road and three roundabouts.
