Revelry looks to enrich local music scene
Imagine a spot where you could go to enjoy live music almost any day of the week, even during the day.
That's now a reality in Kelowna, with the launch of Revelry Food + Music Hub, which promises to bring a fresh wave of live music and vibrancy to the scene.
The venue, located at 1,383 Ellis Street, promises live music every day it's open, looking to support the abundant talent found in and around the Okanagan, according to manager Ali Lewis.
Be it acoustic acts just starting out or some of the region’s top talent, all will be showcased at Revelry.
“There are some amazing places to play around town, but this is giving them another opportunity and a little bit more consistency, especially over the winter,” Lewis told Kelowna10.
With a standing room capacity of over 600, the venue is poised to host a variety of events. Even before opening, Lewis said the venue was attracting the interest of artists reaching out to perform. The venue is able to accommodate standing show, semi-seated, or a full table set up.
However, Revelry is not just about music - it promises a full experience. Visitors can enjoy a full food menu available throughout the day, regardless of the show or event taking place.
The venue itself is steeped in history, originally being an old fruit packing warehouse.
The stage is set up like the old loading dock at the rear of the building, and various parts of the venue pay homage to the Okanagan Valley, including original stickers from apple boxes.
“It’s about bringing that Okanagan feel inside so that people are actually able to know where they are when they're seeing imagery from here,” Lewis explained.
While the priority for the team behind Revelry is live music, it is also open for other events, albeit with some limitations. The venue plans to release packages that will give people an idea of what else they can do within the space.
Given the city's rich musical talent, the arrival of Revelry is seen as a dream come true for local artists, Lewis said. And as the venue steps into its first week, it looks forward to becoming a consistent platform for live music.
The venue plans to be open to the public Monday to Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
