How these hats help support men's mental health

Clothing aims to initiate a dialogue on men's mental health

November puts a focus on men’s health, and one Kelowna brand is centered around beginning a conversation about just that.

Meet Friends of Felix, a lifestyle fashion brand that is dedicated to promoting conversations surrounding men’s mental health through its line of sweaters, and caps.

“That's really what we stress on. We want to start as many conversations between guys as possible in the community," co-founder Austin Penrose told 104.7 The LIZARD’s Sarah Nick. “That is honestly the first step, in our opinion, to figuring out whatever you need to figure out."

And who is Felix?

It doesn’t stem from an actual person, but still carries a distinct and meaningful significance.

“It’s a symbolism for all of us in almost every language. It means happy, joyous, lucky, and fortunate. And we wanted that to serve as almost a reminder that life is lucky and we're lucky to be here,” Penrose said. “Even on the darkest days, it's sometimes it's hard to find that positivity and that positive message in it. But we hope that the Felix name can kind of be a reminder of that.”

Ten per cent of the proceeds to towards the organization Heads Up Guys out of Vancouver, an online portal the help men battle depression by providing resources, assessments, and a direction of where to take the next step.
