Uncorking new opportunities for tourists and wineries
Ever been on vacation and wanted to take more than a few bottles of wine home with you?
That can leave you with all the hassle of boxing and shipping them.
Enter Jeff and Monique Watson, owners of Kelowna Pool Tables.
They’ve become the exclusive distributor in Canada for FlyWithWine, which is luggage designed specially to allow visitors to the Okanagan travel safely home with up to 12 bottles of wine.
“You no longer have to worry about wrapping the wine up in your clothes in your suitcase or it getting broken by baggage handlers,” Jeff told Toby from 103.1 Beach Radio. “It’s all foam surrounded and secured in place.”
Whether it’s the five, eight or 12-bottle suitcase, he said it’s all baggage handler tested for its trip through checked luggage. The compound material shell combines with closed-cell foam and a TSA compliant lock that’s flush mounted and integrated into the suitcase.
While anyone who is traveling can buy the luggage, Watson said his target market is local wineries.
“I’ve been to several trade shows, and they love it. It’s been proven in the U.S. where FlyWithWine was born that wineries partnering with this product sell more wine, “he explained, because customers often want to take more than a bottle or two.
The suitcases retail for between $399 and $599, and multi-sets are also available for up to $999.
And for anyone wanting to travel much closer to home on foot, there’s another cool option available.
It’s a backpack that takes a wine bladder with a spigot tap so you can dispense it on a hike or picnic. That costs $299.
