Festive fundraiser raises thousands for JoeAnna's House

Hundreds turned out to support 'home away from home'

When the warmth of home can seem distant, JoeAnna’s House stands as a beacon of hope and healing for families in need.

This initiative by the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation is more than just a house - it's a home away from home for families whose loved ones are receiving long-term care at the hospital.

And hundreds came together for the inaugural Winter Wonderland on Sunday, the largest fundraising event for the home.

This year, over $61,000 was collected.

The festivities had everything: pictures with Santa, a beer garden, food trucks, a mini market, hockey games, and an overwhelming sense of holiday spirit.

But the real magic of JoeAnna's House lies in the comfort and solace it provides families during some of their most challenging times.

"Having a home like this so close to the hospital is immeasurable," Carly Malchuk, Community Engagement & Events Manager, said.

"It's been proven that having family close reduces healing time. By allowing your family to be close, at an affordable cost, we're helping you get home quicker."

JoeAnna's House is a testament to the power of community, she said, noting it is built by and supported by the community.

Since opening in November 2019, it has provided a safe haven for over 1,900 regional families.
