Family Day fun at the art gallery

Families can tackle challenges to win prizes and bragging rights

  • Nine challenges to complete
  • Tasks bring visitors all over the gallery
  • Free event and gallery admission

Families looking for a fun way to spend the holiday can take on a challenge at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

It’s hosting the Family Day Challenge, where families work as a team to complete nine different challenges that take place throughout the five exhibition spaces.

“These range from something creative like telling a story to finding some art,” Aubrey Creasor, public programming assistant told Kelowna10.

“Everything is free. Our challenge is free. Gallery admission is free. It’s very inclusive for everybody.”

While completing the challenges, families can take in the gallery exhibits, such as Inuit art in A Story in Three Parts: Ashevak, Pootoogook, Isuma, or a glow-in-the-dark painting by Moozhan Ahmadzadegan.

A gallery of striking screen prints by Briar Craig called README also has an interactive game.

Families will be given a challenge card that comes with stickers to keep track of the games that have been completed. The back of the card has written instructions to help guide visitors on various tasks.

“We have fun little prizes in our treasure chest, and you’ll also get bragging rights as a family once you’ve completed all the challenges,” Creasor explained.

This in-person event takes place on Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
