Henry thanks Indigenous veterans and calls on everyone to weather the pandemic 'storm'
A powerful and emotional message has been given by the province’s top doctor to all veterans this Remembrance Week.
During Tuesday’s regular media conference, provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, made a point of reflecting on National Aboriginal Veterans Day and also looked ahead to Nov.11.
She called on everyone to support active military families and veterans.
Henry drew a parallel between the collective efforts of veterans past and how the public could now do their collective part in helping to combat the pandemic.
After passing on her gratitude to First Nations, Inuit and Metis veterans, and acknowledging the injustice many of them felt after serving “their country; our country,” Henry called on the public to do the right thing.
“With Remembrance Day ahead, let’s look to our veterans again who have shown us how important it is to work together, to support each other, to do our part and to persevere. And we are persevering. This has been a long pandemic and it is the time once again for us to remember … we are in this storm together.”
Henry called on the public over the coming months to “ … honour and support our active military family and veterans everywhere and continue to do our part.”
