‘Dirty Girls’ a hit in the landscaping biz

Females in a male dominated industry

  • It’s an all female business
  • Changing the way people look at landscapers
  • Bringing a positive energy to every property

The landscaping industry is often seen as a male dominated field, but Rachel Belch, owner of Dirty Girl Landscaping Co., is looking to change that.

“Firstly, I would like to tip my cap to the other females in this industry and in trades who are totally killing it”, Belch told Kelowna10. “There's a lot of really amazing companies in Kelowna”.

Judgement regarding females in the industry isn’t uncommon, but Belch understands that most men are rooting for them.

“Working in a predominantly male industry you definitely get kind of side comments that if you let them get to you, they would get to you," Belch said.

“But, I think generally speaking, the vast majority of men that we encounter and work alongside with are super stoked on what we’re doing and really happy to see us out here.”

According to her website, Belch takes a nurturing and detailed oriented approach to landscaping, bringing a fun and positive energy to every property they visit.

The company has won awards for its work in the Kelowna area.

Facing the same struggles that every small business does, it’s her passion and love for the trade that keeps her going.

“I love this type of work," Belch said. “I love using my hands. My mind has always been super creative. I love being outdoors.

“I’m super passionate about the work, and it’s so fun just making everything beautiful.”
