It's a wild time
The fourth edition of The Fur-Mazing Race spanned an entire weekend of action and excitement in Kelowna.
The stage was set to determine the ultimate champion among the eight mascots vying for the top spot.
The event was organized by Beacons Furry Foundation Society, which started to help families struggling during COVID-19.
Mascots journeyed from across the province, with notable contenders like the Kelowna's Rocket's Rocky Raccoon, while other crossed borders from Indianapolis and San Diego, adding an international flair to the event.
"We thought what better way, especially with a lot of our mascots coming from out of region, to be able to show off her beautiful region and have them compete in the elements outside," Cori Inman, President of Beacons Furry Foundation Society, told Kelowna10.
The festivities kicked off Saturday at Scandia. Fans and competitors alike were treated to a delightful blend of camaraderie and competition as they put their skills to the test in rounds of mini-golf and go-kart races.
Sunday took place at Oyama Ziplines, where the mascots were put to the ultimate challenge as they fearlessly tackled the Mascot Warrior Adventure Course, and took to the skies in ziplining sessions.
Inman said the entire concept is truly unique, as it exemplifies an appreciation for fans while providing an extraordinary opportunity to witness the remarkable abilities of these mascots.
"[Spectators] don't always understand. They don't realize that the mascots totally perform as themselves, not their individual selves,” she said. “If anybody has ever come up to the Ninja Warrior Course at Oyama and did it as a human, imagine doing that with about a 20 or 30 pound weight on you and covered in fur. So it's a big competition.”
