The performance promises to set the spooky tone ahead of Halloween
Get ready to question the unknown and delve into conversations that blur the line between this world and the afterlife in the perfect spooky season play.
New Vintage Theatre will be performing The Thin Place at The Black Box Theatre later this month, just in time for All Hallows’ Eve.
The play was written by Tony award-winning playwright, Lucas Hnath, and focuses on transforming the theatre into a séance where the characters, and the audience, explore the fragile boundary between our world and the next.
Chris Iversen plays political consultant Jerry, who is one of just four characters in the play.
“He represents someone who is sure of what’s real but goes through a very abrupt change in the play, [and] by the end, he’s questioning everything,” Iversen told Kelowna10.
In order to prepare for the roles, Iversen said the cast was tasked by artistic director Bonnie Gratz to think about their own interactions with the unknown.
“How do we feel about things we don’t understand and even if we’ve had paranormal experiences because this touches on that as well,” he explained. “There are definitely some creepy moments … It makes you think, it makes you question a lot on what’s real.”
The play was first performed back in August during the Kelowna Fringe Festival. Iversen said since then, everyone has dived even deeper into their characters, and are excited for the upcoming shows.
“This is my first time performing in this space and my first time with New Vintage Theatre, so just the experience of it I’m super excited for,” he said. “Being live, you get to be a lot more intimate with the audience [and] take their vibe throughout the show, that’s what makes it different every time for me anyway.”
The Thin Place will be performed Oct. 27 to 29. Tickets can be purchased here.
