Collectors flock to vintage fair

Vintage treasures and timeless memories

Vintage enthusiasts and history buffs gathered in Kelowna at the annual Okanagan Vintage Fair, where treasures from years past come back into the spotlight.

Among the passionate collectors was Sarah Isaksen, owner of Round Again Retro, whose affection for all things vintage began with her mom.

“She was an antique dealer, so this is something I've known all my life. There's something to be said for keeping using things that were meant to keep around,” she told Kelowna10. “We grew up garage sailing, flea marketing, and going to other vintage sales.”

Her table had a wide variety of antiques, but there’s one piece that she finds the neatest.

“I have a sterling silver Russian vodka cup from 1863,” she said. “I think that's probably the coolest and oldest combined.”

As the day unfolded, with a continuous flow of visitors pausing at her booth, Isaksen noted the conversations she has transport everyone back in time, reminiscing about the good old days.

“It's a lot of memories brought up. It's a lot of, ‘oh, we have that.’ ‘Oh, my grandma had that’. ‘Oh, I love that.’ It’s all good conversation,” she said.

The fair itself and the number of people coming to stroll through all the goods, shows just how the interest in vintage clothing and items has continued to grow.

“It’s keeping history alive,” she said. "It’s also keeping things out of the landfill, teaching kids now that it's important to take care of items and not just using the fast fashion."
