A good time and a good cause

Eclectic Christmas decorations that would normally collect years of dust at thrift stores act as centre pieces.

Christmas music, old and new, fills the air.
It's accurately described as “Christmas vomit, in a nice way,” according to designer Erin van den Brink.
She is the mastermind behind the décor at Jack’s on Bernard, which has transformed into a pop-up Winter Wonder Bar in time for the holiday season. It's in stark contrast to their usual 70s theme.
With more than five thousand dollars worth of new decorations, it took four days to put up.
“We kind of got inspired from a few other cocktail bars around the world that have just put Christmas all over their bar,” general manager Jeremy Cummins told Kelowna10.
“We said, ‘hey, why not try it in Kelowna.’ It’s kind of a first of it’s kind.”
Jack’s Bar manager Griffin Cox designed special cocktails, served in festive holiday glassware, ideal for the Instagram age.
Their take on a Manhattan, the ‘Fairytale of New York’ resembled the traditional drink but sweeter. Another cocktail, ‘Mr. Grinch’ is made with green in mind, using matcha, lime and more.
Cox said his personal favorite is his take on an Horchata.
Each festival drink is paired with a food item, such as a meatball and lentil dish to accompany the Fairytale of New York.
Jack’s is also using this opportunity to raise money for charity. It’s accepting funds for Mamas for Mamas, a national charitable organization focused on supporting mothers and caregivers in crisis.
Patrons can donate between $5 to $20 per customer at the end of their visit and the restaurant will match it in gift cards for their next visit to Jack’s in the new year.
The Winter Wonder Bar at Jack’s on Bernard will run from Nov. 26 until Dec. 26. Reservations are available for groups of two, four and six on their website.
Bookings can be made for up to two hours and minors are permitted until 9 p.m. COVID Safe Private Bookings are also available, email reservations@jackskelowna.com to enquire.
