‘Cher’ set for stage with Kelowna Actors Studio

It’s about ‘totally owning it’

Impressive impersonator Bonnie Kilroe never set out to be Cher.

But one night earlier in her showbiz career when rehearsing for a gig on a cruise ship, her stage partner suggested she give the world-famous diva a try. The rest, they say, is history.

It’s a one-woman show that makes your head spin and your feet tap.

“She’s so popular, everyone wants her,” Kilroe told Kelowna10 ahead of her Cher shows in Kelowna May 3-5, noting the fast-paced routine is all about ‘high maintenance.’

“Wigs, jewellery, props and costumes... Cher is larger than life, she’s untouchable; she’s a living legend,” she explained.

During her shows, Bonnie uses her skill as a performer to encourage audience participation, which always adds an extra element of novelty and surprise. Her natural comedic timing, striking looks and versatile vocals all help to create a mesmerizing feast for your entertainment senses.

“She’s been performing for sixty years, " Kilroe said about impersonating Cher. "It’s intimidating, it’s like ‘wow you’re going to try and do that?’ The only way you do that is to own it, the way she would. The more attitude I have, the more Cher I am.”

Catch the performances with her live band at Kelowna Actors Studio, May 3-5.

Appies and drinks are from 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
