Market on Hollywood Road serves up exotic & tasty treats
Bored of the traditional Kit Kat?
Yearn for the quenching power of a pineapple flavoured Fanta? Or maybe some Turtle Chips.
Look no further than Rutland’s Hollywood Market.
The truly a unique spot has imported an array of international snacks and beverages from over 30 countries for nearly a decade.
It has become a somewhat unknown but must know place for true treat fans and foodies.
With four shipments per week, there’s always something new that’s ready to be revealed to the public.
“You get bored of the same snacks at the end of the day,” owner Manik Dhir told 104.7 The Lizard’s, Sarah Nick. “The intent is to give you the ability to try something new and unique that perhaps doesn’t exist in Canada. That’s what we want to do, and we love what we do, which is why we do it.”
He’s been in the exotic snack business for the last 10 years, first dipping his toe into the market by brining in various famous 99 cent Arizona flavours when those were a hot commodity.
He’s since learned a lot about what the customers want, and travel to his store for.
Another unique attribute about the market, is that Dhir will often do special orders, which plays a part in accommodating the growing number of international students studying in Kelowna.
“We had a Japanese student from UBCO and she saw her [favorite] Kit Kat flavours and she lost her mind,” he said. “It’s nostalgic for them, also, and that’s another intent of why we do what we do.”
