Capturing the visual vibes of modern life
In downtown Kelowna, there is a versatile and aesthetically pleasing environment to bring your creative visions to life.
It's built for content creators, photographers, and individuals seeking a dynamic space for their projects: enter Base Coat Studio!
Here, a range of backdrops caters to diverse needs – from neutral settings for tutorials and e-commerce product photos, or vibrant options for fashion or creative projects. The studio's available couch adds a fun, playful element, offering creators both dimension and posing opportunities.
“It’s a really cool space to create for people to come in and use, and do photoshoots in, or pop-ups or any short-term rental that someone would need a space to get creative in,” owner Kaylea Dolphin told Kelowna10. “I just wanted people to have a turnkey, ready to go space to create - it be for business or personal use.”
Having initially ventured into the world of beauty (which she continues to do), Dolphin found herself drawn towards the realm of e-commerce and constantly needed a space that fits any aesthetic.
That initially drove her motivation for Base Coat Studio, but she also wanted to provide a solution for those in a similar situation.
“People that have used it are continuously using it, which is really nice. I get compliments on the lighting, on the neutral tone because everybody's esthetic is different. That helps to fit any vibe,” she said. “There's all the basics that you need and then just lighting and location as well. Being right downtown is ideal for people.”
Dolphin said the booming downtown and significant role social media plays in contemporary life has resulted in high demand for her space.
“It's really cool to see people come in and be able to do their thing. That's exciting for me and watching people grow with what they're doing,” she said. “On their first shoot, they might do something a little bit easier, and as they get more comfortable, you see the progression in their videos and in their photos. I think being creative and having a playful outlet for life is really fun and I think that's where social media comes in."
Reservations can be made through Instagram or by email, and a minimum of two-hour usage is required.
