Check out this new artisanal offering in Kelowna

From sourdough beginnings to artisanal excellence

Nestled on Bernard Avenue, there’s a new hub for artisan food lovers for something quick and easy to grab sandwiches, breakfast bagels, muffins, and other European baked goods.

Enter Polene [paw-leen] Bakery and Bistro, which is from the same people who also operate Alchemy Bread.

Initially, their journey commenced with crafting sourdough bread, valued for its extended shelf life through Alchemy. Eventually, it led to the start of Polene, a storefront that not only offers an array of pastries but has also emerged as a hub for artisanal sandwiches.

"I started baking sour dough at home when the COVID started, just because my favorite bakery was selling out the entire time," owner Myroslav Pomazan told 104.7 The LIZARD’s Sarah Nick. " So I was like, okay, screw that, I'm just going to make my own bread.”

Pomazan credits a lot of help from his ‘international team’ which is comprised of a lot of Ukrainian residents who came to Kelowna.

“It turns out many of them don't speak English, but they do great baking work,” he said. “A bunch of them reached out and I finally got an opportunity to build the team. And here we are.”

Polene Bakery & Bistro is open Tuesday to Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
