Aesthetiks LAB offers multitude of creative mediums for new creatives

Born from a childhood dream, and tucked away downtown is a unique space geared towards fostering artists both young and old – The Aesthetiks LAB.

“We always thought it would be so fun if there was somewhere we could go and meet other creative kinds like us,” owner Erikka Moojelsky told Sarah Nick from 104.7 The Lizard. “Just have a place that was like our clubhouse, somewhere to hang out with other kids that maybe were introverted or artistic like us.”

During COVID, Moojelsky realized how many other young people have likely had the same idea she did, and how much they could benefit from a space like that.

“I thought, I’m going to try it here, I love this community and if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work,” she said. “I worked all summer long doing costume on film, saved every penny, and put all the money in myself.”

The space offers areas for music recording, live performance, as well as equipment and rooms for painting or textile work.

The building also has its own store where members can put their creations up for sale. Eighty per cent of the profits go towards the artist and the remaining 20 per cent go to purchasing supplies.

“Anything our members make can be for sale in the store,” she explained. “I’m just teaching them entrepreneurship, and how to value their time. It’s a great place to buy a unique gift, and it’s really great if you want to support people that are just starting out becoming artists.”

Though it’s not only for kids, Moojelsky says the lab has hours later in the day reserved solely for adults, and wants it to be seen as a space that is open to anyone and everyone.

The memberships are at $70 a month and that’s all inclusive. That includes everything: your supplies, the equipment, the lessons you want to learn. You just have to ask us and someone will teach you what you want to know,” Moojelsky said.

“We made it so that everyone can afford to learn and grow their art.”
