Check out this housewares shop inside a downtown heritage home

Nestled between homes in downtown Kelowna is a unique housewares vendor, brimming with local treasures.

Sarah Nick, from 104.7 The Lizard, visited Peddler’s Cottage Interiors, a quaint little shop, where she spoke with owner Charlene Habuza’s daughter, Kylie Habuza to get the scoop on what makes the spot a hidden gem.

“We are located on the busy street of Bernard, kind of hidden in the neighbourhood area,” Habuza told Sarah. “We’re in an old heritage home as well.”

The business began 14 years ago, when Charlene and Duane decided to combine their passions of country décor and heritage, for a store unlike any other.

Finding the perfect space was easy.

In fact, it was on the first day of house hunting that the Habuza’s discovered the once magnificent Muirhead House, a true diamond in the rough located near the desired downtown core.

After much restoration work, the store opened in 2009 to rave reviews from the community.

To this day, Peddler’s Cottage is still completely family run.

The shop had a wide variety of items on offer, from plant pots to country style décor, and a myriad of other knick-knacks.

Peddler’s Cottage is known by many for their selection of Christmas related items, being so well known for that, in fact, that some customers think that is the only time the location is open.

Habuza assured Sarah they are open year-round.

Alongside the array of wares, an amazing cacophony of smells permeated the entire building, the source of which was the store’s vast candle section.

“I would say one of our most popular pieces would probably be our candle selection. We have wax melts as well if people don't want to burn candles” Habuza explained. “We’re really known for our scents here.”
