The Okanagan is surging as a farm to table culinary stage
It was a night for food lovers of all sorts as the Okanagan's best on the culinary stage showed off what they do.
Over 60 businesses - including top chefs, mixologists and purveyors of fine food and drink - were set up Saturday night at the KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence for the 8th annual Amuse! Eat, Drink and Be Social.
Event director Holly Dober told Kelowna10 she’s seen a lot of growth in the Okanagan food scene as more and more businesses are popping up and events like this help make it what it is.
“They’re a great opportunity to showcase your uniqueness in front of a really engaged crowd. They’re the people shopping at your business and are customers in your restaurant,” she said. “We brought together a great demographic of people to be in front of these outstanding presenters.”
She added foodies are really into the idea of farm to table, a concept that helps the market continue to thrive.
“People want to know where their food is coming from and that’s important. It’s important to the chefs to use that local aspect in their food, and they're proud of that,” Dober said. “People want to be healthy and informed on where their food is coming from.”
With all the new restaurants that are popping up around the region, and the abundance of local products for chefs to use, Dober thinks things can only get better.
“The farm to table is a unique thing to the Okanagan. But more and more people are exploring that option, becoming friends with the farmer, and knowing where their food is coming from. That’s important for the chefs of the community and to the consumers.”
