This 13-year-old's art is taking the internet by storm

Self taught artist extraordinaire

At a young age, most kids who show an interest in art take time to develop their drawing skills with simple pieces.

However, this was not the case for a 13-year-old self-taught artist Scarlet Hahn from Lake Country.

She began her artistic journey by drawing portraits of her parents and using sidewalk chalk on unconventional surfaces, such as the side of her house.

The majority of her pieces have been stunning drawings of animals - each taking upwards of four to five hours depending on the piece itself.

Her love for the outdoors is the driving force behind her work.

“I have always been interested in and loved art of all kinds since I was little … I figured out how to draw animals which I love and things that inspire me,” she told Kelowna10.

Hahn is inspired by other similar artists on social media, and uses them as a motivator for what her art could be down the line.

“I have seen a couple of other artists on social media that I also watch and looked at. It’s a big inspiration where I can potentially get to at some point and just being able to see where my art is taking me is exciting and that’s very inspiring,” Hahn explained.

While there’s other things like gymnastics and archery keeping her occupied, creating art is something she is focused on doing long term.

“My goal is to be drawing every day, but I’m quite busy with sports and other things as well. So, it’s usually every other day, and I try to fit in an hour in that time,” she said. “I don’t really know what the future holds, but I’d love to continue what I’m doing now, and it’d be super cool to keep sharing my art with people.”
