Store relocates from downtown spot after 18 years
Player’s Choice Sports Cards and Collectables was abuzz with crowds coming for their grand opening at their new location on Banks Road.
Amid the chaos was store owner Jason Wobshall, who was helping kids fill out their store scavenger hunt sheets that would help them get a free prize.
The grand opening of the store coincided with Hockey Card Day in Canada.
“It worked out pretty special for us,” Wobshall told Kelowna10.
The clientele flitted about the store, looking at the vast stock of collectibles on offer.
Shelves were stocked with full packs of hockey cards to highly sought after rookie cards of legendary players, some going for up to $30,000.
The shop was based in downtown Kelowna for the past 18 years, but Wobshall and the team are beyond happy with their decision to move locations.
“This spot is three or four times bigger than what we had,” he said. “We feel a lot safer, and it gives our customers and our friends and everybody a better working space and a lot more ability to show what stuff we have.”
He said sports cards had a surge in popularity during COVID-19 when people began to dig up their old collections and rekindle their love for the items.
“A lot more investors and people [are] digging out their old stuff and having fun and everybody's just seeing the worth of the collectibles,” he explained. “And with young players in the game, like Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard coming up next year, I think you're going to see a really strong gain in hockey next year for sure.”
