Check out Kelowna's award-winning poutine!

No meat, no dairy, no problem

Kelowna’s Naked Cafe has earned some serious bragging rights from PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

The organization named Naked Cafe's Market Poutine one of the best vegan poutines in Canada during La Poutine Week, which ran earlier this month.

This award-winning dish features McCain French fries, dairy-free mozzarella, grape tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cucumber, sesame seeds and a meat-free gravy, all topped with a drizzle of tahini dressing.

Chef/operator Sina Matoor told Kelowna10 the inspiration for the dish comes from the Gordey sisters, who own the cafe.

“Growing up vegan in Kelowna, they would go to a local donair spot, grab fries with tahini sauce, and load up on all the veggies from the donair buffet,” Matoor said.

Along with the recognition, Naked Cafe will receive a framed certificate from PETA. Other winners include MeeT in Victoria, Leopold’s Tavern in Winnipeg, NJ’s Kitchen in St. John’s and Odd Burger in Regina.
